Zhan Rushman LLC ("Zhan Rushman," "we," "us," or "our") publishes Dream Atlas (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. Where we rely on your consent — as we do for sending dream text to our AI provider, and for usage analytics in Europe — we ask you first, in the App, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Dream content. When you record a dream, your speech is transcribed to text using Apple's on-device Speech framework where your device and language support it, or, for languages your device can't recognize on its own, by streaming the audio to Apple's speech recognition service while you record (see Section 4). The transcript, along with any title, tags, mood, and notes you add, is stored on your device. Unless you turn off Keep original audio in Settings, the recording of your voice is stored with it, and is included in your iCloud backup if you turn that on.
AI analysis content. When you file a dream or request a deep reading, the text of that dream (and, for a deep reading, the earlier write-up of it) is sent — and when you request a moon reading, the titles, retellings, emotions and symbols of that month's dreams (never their full text) are sent — over an encrypted connection to our AI infrastructure provider, OpenRouter, Inc. (United States), which routes the request to the AI model that writes the response. At the time of writing, the model that files dreams is DeepSeek's V3 and the model that writes deep readings and moon readings is Anthropic's Claude; OpenRouter passes the text to the provider hosting that model. We do not send your name, email, device identifiers, contacts, location, or any other identifying information along with it — only the dream text itself. Like any internet service, OpenRouter receives the network (IP) address the request comes from; we do not send it any other identifier. The audio is never sent to our AI provider.
We ask before the first dream is sent. The App shows a consent screen, with an equally prominent "Not now", that names OpenRouter and the model providers and says exactly what will be sent. Nothing is sent to the AI provider until you choose "Allow AI write-ups". If you decline, your dreams are still saved on your device as drafts, but they are not written up and the Atlas cannot form. You can switch this on or off at any time under Settings → Data ("AI write-ups via OpenRouter"); switching it off stops the next request immediately. Updating the App never turns this on by itself.
Purchase information. Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made and its status, but never see or store your payment card details.
iCloud backup (optional). If you turn on iCloud backup in Settings, your dreams are stored in your own private iCloud database, under your Apple ID, governed by Apple's iCloud Terms and Conditions. We do not have access to this data — it never passes through our own servers, because we don't operate any (see Section 2).
Notifications. Reminder notifications are scheduled locally on your device using Apple's notification system and are never transmitted to us or anyone else.
Usage analytics. The App uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how its features are used — for example, how many dreams are recorded, whether an AI write-up succeeded or failed, which screens are opened, and whether a subscription was started or cancelled. Dream content is never included. We do not send the text of a dream, its transcript, title, summary, tags, symbols, places, characters, your written reflections, or anything you type into the search box. Analytics events carry only counts, ranges (for example "a 1–3 minute recording" rather than an exact length), yes/no flags, and values from a fixed list defined in the App, such as which screen was opened or which subscription plan was chosen.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, this is off until you agree. The App asks you once, on a screen with an equally prominent "No thanks", and collects nothing — not even an installation identifier — until you choose to share. Declining costs you no features. If you agree and later change your mind, switch Share usage data off under Settings → Data: the App stops collecting and deletes the analytics identifier and any events still held on your device. Updating the App never turns this on by itself. We decide which devices to ask from the region and time zone your device reports, and we err towards asking.
Elsewhere, usage analytics are on by default and this policy is the disclosure. If you would like them switched off and you are outside those regions, email us at zhanrushmanllc@gmail.com and we will tell you how. A refusal is remembered wherever you are: if you decline in Europe and later travel or change your device region, the App keeps it off.
Where analytics are running, Firebase Analytics also collects standard device and app information — an app-generated installation identifier, device model, operating-system version, country and language, and app version. It does not use the Apple advertising identifier (IDFA), and the App does no advertising, ad measurement, or cross-app tracking. Firebase Analytics processes this information as our service provider; see Google's Firebase privacy documentation. Apple may separately collect standard App Store and operating-system diagnostics under its own privacy policy; that collection is outside our control.
Dream Atlas does not operate a backend server for your account or dream data. Your dreams live on your device, and, optionally, your own iCloud account. Apart from your own iCloud backup, if you turn it on, your dream content leaves your device in only two cases: when you file a dream or ask for a reading, its text goes to our AI infrastructure provider; and when you record in a language your iPhone can't recognize on its own, the audio of your voice goes to Apple's speech recognition service while you speak, to be turned into text. The usage analytics described above travel to Firebase, but they never contain dream content.
We use dream content solely to generate the analysis, write-up, or reading you requested. We do not use your dream content for advertising, to build a profile of you, or to train AI models, and we do not sell it. Our AI infrastructure provider and the model providers it routes to process the text solely to return a response to your request, as our service providers and under terms that prohibit using it to train their own models, and they are required to protect it to a standard at least equal to this policy. See OpenRouter's privacy policy.
We use usage analytics only to understand how the App is used in aggregate, to find features that are broken or confusing, and to decide what to build next. We do not use them for advertising or to build a marketing profile of you.
We share information only as follows:
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Your dreams remain on your device, and in your iCloud account if backup is enabled, until you delete them. You can:
Where usage analytics are running, Firebase retains those events for up to 14 months from collection. They contain no dream content and no name, email, or account identifier — only an identifier generated for your installation of the App — so we cannot look you up in them, though they remain personal data under the GDPR because that identifier singles out a device. Switching Share usage data off in Settings stops collection and clears that identifier from your device. To ask us to delete analytics already collected, contact us at zhanrushmanllc@gmail.com and we will make the request to Google on your behalf.
Because dream content sent for analysis is used only to generate your response, our AI infrastructure provider does not retain it for longer than needed to process that request under our agreement with them.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because your dream content is stored on your own device and iCloud account rather than on our servers, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the App at any time (see Section 5). For anything you can't do yourself in the App, contact us at zhanrushmanllc@gmail.com and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than providing the App's core features.
European/UK residents: where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal basis for sending dream text to our AI provider is your consent, given on the screen described in Section 1 and withdrawable at any time under Settings → Data. Our legal basis for usage analytics is your consent alone, given on the screen described in Section 1 and withdrawable at any time in Settings; until it is given, the App stores nothing on your device for analytics purposes and sends nothing to Google. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland and the App did not ask you — for example because your device reports a region and time zone outside those areas — email us at zhanrushmanllc@gmail.com and we will switch analytics off for you and have the data deleted.
Dream Atlas is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at zhanrushmanllc@gmail.com and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
Our AI infrastructure provider may process dream text on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. By using the AI analysis feature, you consent to this transfer. Usage analytics are likewise processed on Google servers, including in the United States; Google LLC is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions, which is the transfer mechanism we rely on.
We rely on Apple's platform security (device encryption, Keychain, iCloud encryption) to protect data stored on your device or in your iCloud account, and encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for any request sent to our AI infrastructure provider. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
